Abstract

Immunization sometimes requires repetition so that immunity can be created optimally. Thus, babies are having a higher risk of frequent pain exposure. therefore an analgesic action is needed to relieve the infant's pain. This research aims to determine differences in the level of infant pain that received supplemental breast milk and 24% Sucrose solution prior to DPT immunization in Polindes Jatisari Purwodadi Pasuruan City. Comparative Analytic design was used on this research. Sampling technique used was Stratified Proportional Random Sampling which resulting 20 samples. NIPS pain scale was used in this research as research instrument, while Mann-Whitney U test used as data analyzing technique. The results of this research indicate a significant differences between the level of infant pain given by Supplemental Breast milk (mean rank = 13.15) and 24% sucrose solution (mean rank = 7.85) prior to DPT immunization with p value of 0.035. The result indicating 24% sucrose solution is more effective than supplemental breastmilk for babies pain reducing. Health attendants are suggested to do analgesics intervention before pain induced procedure in order to prevent babies experiencing pain side effect.
